Monique grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the 80s and 90s – a time when being the well read nerdy black girl who watched Star Trek: TOS and TNG meant being accused of wanting to be a white girl from the suburbs. She found comfort in writing and spending as much time in Barnes and Noble as her 8pm curfew would allow. She eventually went to college a few miles outside of Boston where she met her husband and some of the best people on the planet. She credits the family they created with saving her life on more than one occasion – mostly because they taught her she was a geek and took her to her first con.
Monique and her husband have 4 children who they are raising to be vocal advocates for justice, equality, and respect for other people’s fandoms. They have a collection of over 100 card and board games which pairs well with the growing wine collection.
Monique starting figuring out life at 35. Now, a little over a year in, she hopes to have a better understanding of who she is and what she wants to do before she hits 40. She is absolutely sure it will include more expansions for her Legendary: Marvel deck building game (currently at 3,224 cards), more chocolate, wine, tacos, time with her nieces and nephews, and publishing at least 7 more books. Heroes of Winterbuy can be purchased now on Amazon.
